    I just want to know how to make a custom mesh for a weapon, and a custom textures for a race...I had an idea for a custom mesh for a weapon some time ago, but, I didn't know how, as well with custom textures.

    ^^ Very Happy Well with photoshop you will need Nvidias plugin but seeings how you have the Gimp you will need to download the Gimp .dds plugin, I could link you to a download but I believe that another program called DDS Converter 2 is easier for beginners (Texture Beginners) like your self. If you have the plugins for either Gimp or Photoshop you will have to be rather experienced as you need to know about saving in DXT. The only thing with DDS Converter is that you can't make Normal maps, you need Photoshop for that Sad

    Well have you downloaded the Plugin? If you have then maybe it is a Saving error (DXT Stuff) you can try saving in BC2/DXT3 or try in Alpha DXT 5. Get back to me Very Happy

    I know why the files resolution has to be a power of 2 i.e. 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 512 1024 2048 4098 and I don't think I need to go higher than that

    I am saying when converting an image to dds it wont work unless the resolution is a power of 2 i.e. 256 x 512

    I didn't get it the first time I was told either

    Yeah I thought so but it just seemed like you were on a rant Laughing and yeah that could be a factor. I don't think that 256 x 512 would work but I know that 512 x 512 would work along with 1024 x 1024. Oh and an easy rule to remember when saving textures TheTrueSithis is that when increasing increments of size you don't X's it you plus it eg. 512 x 512 is supported and the next supported size is 512 + 512 which = 1024 and so on Very Happy I hope I didn't confuse anyone.

    yeah Very Happy I just thought it might not work for Oblivion (I know it works in other games that I have Modded) because of an error I got saying that I had to have 512 x 512 and no higher or no less. I overide it anyway Laughing

    Oh yeh you don't use gimp that could be why oh and I animate my mesh in 3d max, but when I put it into nifskope it doesn't have texture or the animation, Got any ideas

    Well I am assuming that you have created the Texture and the Animation. To load your texture in Nifskope you need to point Nifskope to your texture (usually this is done last so that it will point to your texture when it is the Oblivion Data folder) To point the texture to the Mesh you can expand some of the little tree bars and there should be a little Purple flower, when you click this flower you then get to select the texture. Depending if this is an armor set you will have nodes...you can either use one texture for the whole mesh or you can split the Mesh to use more than one image for example if I loaded an armor set I had created I might want the Chest plate to be gold and the Pauldrons to be black.     Maybe its an Image Editor failure??? The Gimp sometimes saves .dds files incorrectly hence the Header could be wrong and Nifskope might not know/or does know that it is corrupt/invalid???

    Try using Paint.NET. It's what I use for my limited texturing, and it works great. Also, it has .dds support as soon as it's installed.

    You need to put the .exe contained in the .zip file into this folder C:\program files\GIMP\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\ (or where ever you installed the Gimp) and then now you can open .dds files from within the Gimp. This is handy for texturing .dds images but the Gimp cannot create Normal Maps Crying or Very sad that is why I use Photoshop Very Happy
